Iran Urged to End Persecution

The UN Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman urges Iran to stop criminalizing peaceful expression of faith, refrain from persecuting religious gatherings in private homes, and end arbitrary arrests of ethnic and religious minorities.

Christian converts face discrimination and persecution, including charges of "propaganda against the system" and "administration of home churches." Article 18 reports that Rehman calls for amending the constitution to grant all religious groups equal rights and protections. Additionally, he emphasizes the need for fair trials, an end to arbitrary arrests and torture, and the release of those detained for peaceful expression.

Recommendations include abolishing the death penalty for minors, ensuring fair trials, and ending discrimination against women and girls.

Please pray:

  • For the protection and safety of Christian converts and other religious minorities in Iran.
  •
  • For the Iranian government to uphold human rights, provide fair trials, and end discrimination against all citizens.
