From Persecution to Peace
Maryam Jalili’s journey to Christianity began after years of searching for peace amid deep personal tragedies. At 17, she lost her firstborn son to meningitis, and years later, her sister died in an accident on her way to a family wedding. These losses led Maryam to question the justice and wisdom of God. Despite her deep involvement in Islamic practices, she found no comfort or answers. It wasn’t until she encountered the Bible and Jesus’ promise of rest that she felt peace.
Upon converting to Christianity at 40, her newfound faith brought severe persecution in her hometown of Neyshabur, Iran. Arrested multiple times for promoting Christianity, she endured harsh interrogations, threats, and was sentenced to prison. Even after serving two and a half years, Maryam continued to face threats, forcing her to flee Iran.
Despite immense challenges, her faith remained steadfast, leading her to resettle in the United States. Maryam’s story, as reported by Article 18, highlights the cost of discipleship in regions hostile to Christianity and the strength that faith in Christ can provide in the face of persecution.
Please pray:
▪ Pray for protection and strength for Christians facing persecution, especially those like Maryam who endure intense threats and imprisonment for their faith.
▪ Pray for the spread of the Gospel in regions hostile to Christianity, that those seeking peace may find it in Christ, despite the dangers.
