Gravestone Still Denied

The family of Iranian Christian convert Mohsen Rashidi, killed during the January crackdown in Iran, are still being prevented from installing a gravestone at his burial site. Mohsen, 42, was shot in Isfahan province on 9 January while trying to recover the body of a friend killed in protests. He later died after being denied access to hospital care.

He leaves behind a wife and three daughters, with relatives describing deep trauma, especially for his young daughter who constantly asks for her father. His family say they were pressured to falsely claim he was linked to the Basij militia and, after refusing, were forced to pay around $8,000 to receive his body.

They were denied a funeral and continue to be blocked from placing a gravestone, reportedly due to objections over inscriptions, including poetry and phrases such as “Son of Iran” and “Javidnam” (“eternal name”). His grave remains unmarked, covered only with stones.

Reports also indicate wider pressure on bereaved families, including defacement of graves and removal of memorial wording.

Please pray:

▪ Pray for comfort, healing, and strength for Mohsen’s wife, children, and wider family as they grieve under ongoing pressure.

▪ Pray for justice, truth, and freedom for grieving families in Iran, and for an end to intimidation and suppression of mourning.

“The righteous man perishes… he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.” Isaiah 57:1–2
